Dear Parents, in March we are:
*Please have your child read with you each evening.
*We are retelling a story in sequence and recalling details of the story.
*We are using spaces between words when we write and correctly writing the words we know.
* We are using capital letters and punctuation in our writing.
*We are blending sounds and counting syllables.
*We continue to work on recognition and value of a penny, nickel, dime and quarter. We will determine the value of a collection of pennies and or nickels whose total value is ten cents or less.
*We are identifying one more and one less than a number.
*We are counting by 1’s to 75. We are counting by 5’s and 10’s to 100.
*We are counting a set of items 1-15 and selecting the corresponding numeral from a given set of numerals.
*We are observing the changes in the weather as spring approaches.
*We are learning about magnets.
*We will continue to work on recognition of the American flag, the Pledge of Allegiance and understand that the president is the leader of the United States.
*We will use simple maps and a globe to develop an awareness of where things are located. *We will locate land and water.
Things you can do at home to help your child learn.
*Work with your child on recognition of the penny, nickel, dime and quarter. Can your child tell you what the coin is? Can they tell you how much it is worth? Can they count the dimes by 10’s? Count the nickels by 5’s? Can your child make change for ten cents or less using pennies and nickels?
*Use maps and a globe to locate where relatives and friends live.
*Help your children write stories using an uppercase letter at the beginning of a sentence, a space between words and a period or question mark at the end. They should be able to write simple sentences using words from our popcorn word list.
*Please remember to do the reading homework together and sign the monthly reading log.
